Greencore Food to Go at Manton Wood in Worksop is part of Greencore Group plc, a leading, international convenience food supplier with c.12,000 employees in the UK, Ireland and US.

The site in Manton Wood supplies in excess of 3 million sandwiches to major supermarkets and high street chains each week, and has been a Stronger Together business partner since March 2016.

Staff members at the site; from operations, HR, technical and hygiene, have attended the ‘Stronger Together Tackling Modern Slavery in UK Businesses’ workshops, as the company recognises that modern slavery could occur, and should be addressed across all functions. Staff members have also attended the ‘Tackling Modern Slavery in Global Supply Chains’ workshop. The company has appointed a senior management team member, who has attended the Stronger Together training, who has the overall responsibility for implementing the site ‘Tackling Modern Slavery’ policy and good practice.

Following the training, the learning has been implemented and shared by providing on-site training for all operations managers on spotting the signs of modern slavery and how to respond in case of concerns. Also, the training and templates from the Stronger Together toolkit have informed the induction process, including induction packs for new staff and agency workers.

The site uses Stronger Together posters and leaflets to make the workforce aware of their rights. It also holds one-to-one worker interviews.

Suppliers to Greencore need to comply with the Ethical Code and Employment Standards, as do labour providers. Greencore provides training on modern slavery to these labour providers. In order to encourage both permanent and agency staff to report cases of hidden third party labour exploitation, there is Stronger Together communication through payslips to all the workforce and on site notice boards.

The site has not come across any potential hidden labour exploitation cases, and is committed to preventing modern slavery by continuing to educate its workforce across all levels and departments based on Stronger Together’s good practice resources and training.

The partnership approach with Stronger Together is consistent with Greencore’s approach across all its 16 manufacturing sites and corporate services office in Barlborough, which are all Stronger Together business partners, covering Greencore’s 10,000+ workforce in the UK.
